Now that the Thanksgiving celebration is closing. It’s time to reflect. Dinners, family, football, and dare I say, shopping sometimes takes our thoughts away from all that Thanksgiving can mean. Of course. we don’t want to miss the thanking part. And we don’t want the thanking to stop as we hurry headlong into the Christmas rush.
The second part of the word is “giving.” Do we forget that? Do we forget giving is necessary before thanking? Giving should mean more, now and throughout the year, then just presents for special occasions.
It’s appropriate that the Tuesday after ThanksGIVING is Giving Tuesday.
Giving Tuesday began in 2012 by Mashable. It was also supported by other tech companies, including Sony and Microsoft. It has grown to an international movement. Non-profits around the world have benefited from large campaigns to the small individual donations.
I would love to be able to give to all the organizations I support. I would love to be able to give to all the people I see in need. I can’t. I can, however, do something.
This year I’ll be giving 25% of sales of all of my products from November 29 through December 6 to one of my favorite organizations, National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). All sales of my books, classes, writing services, and affiliates are included.
Mental illness affects one in four people in this nation. (That’s every fourth person in the pew on Sunday). One of my children suffers from a serious mental illness. The support our family has received from NAMI has helped us through some of the serious crisis mental illness brings to a family. We also learned to understand what our child goes through daily and how to help. (If you have a loved one with a serious mental illness, you may want to consider joining Shattered Lives, a secret Facebook group. Shattered Lives is a safe place to share your experiences and feelings. To join Shattered Lives fill out this short form http://bit.ly/shattered_lives. Facebook doesn’t allow direct adds to a secret group. Complete instructions are at this link.)
Help me give back to those who have given to our family.
